Manchester United are strengthening their squad for the upcoming 2024/25 season and they are trying to secure the signing of another top player, Manuel Ugarte, just a day after announcing French defender Leny Yoro.
Man United, who last won the Premier League in 2013, are eager to take their squad to the next level and compete directly with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for the league title.
The Uruguayan midfielder has the same agent as Yoro, Jorge Mendes, and as per reports from multiple outlets, personal terms have been agreed between the two parties as Ugarte wants to join the Red Devils despite United missing Champions League football.
Ugarte joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) last summer for a 60 million euro fee and has a contract till 2018. PSG are not known to let their players leave without putting up a fight. While the negotiations between the two clubs are already going on, it is not going to be easy for the Manchester club to agree on a deal with the French side.
United are also facing competition from clubs — Bayern Munich notably — but Ugarte is determined to complete his move to the 20-time PL champions.
One of the biggest obstacles United will face during the signing of the Uruguayan would be selling one or two of their midfielders. Scott McTominay and Casemiro are likely to be those who would be sold to make a place for the PSG star.
Earlier on Thursday, Yoro opened up after putting pen to paper and expressed his excitement about signing for United.
“Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour,” Yoro said.
“Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project, and showed a lot of care for me and my family.”
